Parent Coaching

Parenting can be daunting, even in the best of times.  Coaching helps parents understand their child better, helps them understand why they are behaving the way they are, and how to interact with them more effectively.  Parents learn how to “be” with their children and stop worrying about how to “fix” all of their children’s problems (We do not want others fixing our problems and our kids do not want or need us fixing theirs).  Coaching is discussion based where we are simply having a conversation about your kids and how you can help them the best way you can.

We use events and problems you are dealing with, and we break them down in the session.  I help you understand what was “really going on” with your child, what they really needed in that moment, and ways you can help them right then.  I also help you see the events that will lead to a meltdown and how you can proactively intervene, so a meltdown doesn’t happen.  Meltdowns happen because they are overwhelmed, you will learn to recognize what will overwhelm them and cues they are giving to let you know they are getting stressed out.

If we listened to our kids more and became more emotionally connected to them, I believe the vast majority of the behaviors parents see would go away.  This is how important I think listening and being emotionally connected to our kids can be.
